The design was chosen by the Ethics Girls Coop members in celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight 2011. Jenny Nicol is an illustrator & designed the Hummingbird.
This open sourced, participatory method of fashion design differs from normal design in that ownership of the idea is not attributable to just one person or brand, but instead has numerous contributors. This generates a more democratic process and it is a move towards the idea of consumers getting what they want as opposed to what the fashion industry dictates to be the fashion & style of the moment.
There’s no difference in quality between Fairtrade cotton and normal cotton. The real difference is that the farmer at the very bottom of the textile supply chain who has grown the cotton will be paid a guaranteed fair price for their cotton.
The hummingbird t shirt design comes in three colours - grey, white & pink.
