Are you a Green Switcher?
Green Switching your Energy Bills
Switching energy companies has never been easier. With a simple click, the magic of technology calculates new bill estimates for you. Once you've decided on the tariff and company you want, then you can often get all your switching paperwork done for you. Some companies will even reward you - I know I managed to get a free bottle of champagne when I switched my energy company.
The obvious reason to switch energy companies is to save money. This might be high on your priority list at the moment as we see the recent hikes in tariff charges. If you are considering switching, then why not make this a good time to research to see what green energy can offer. As more people switch to green suppliers, more people will start realising that saving money and being greener can go hand in hand.
So you have two priorities - save money & save the planet
What next?
You need to find a good website with an energy calculator that compares the energy companies in your area and you need a site that gives you your green energy options.
We have two options for you - www.uswitch.com and www.fairinvestment.co.uk
Both have calculators and both give you a green energy search option. We are particularly fond of the fairinvestment site because it breaks down the energy sources for each company into a simple pie chart. This makes it easy to see how much coal, natural gas & nuclear power is used by each energy company. It also reports on carbon emissions and nuclear waste. If you are against nuclear power then this function will be very useful to you.
We hear from fairinvestment about their new switching function:
James Caldwell, director of Fair Investment Company, says: “In an increasingly competitive market, it can be difficult for consumers to know which provider will give them the best deal on utilities, but with this tool it is all there, on the screen, so you can see exactly which deal is going to be best for you. “By entering your postcode, current energy supplier and your usage, this tool can help to make sure you get the best price for your energy consumption, and potentially save you hundreds of pounds a year. And because it is specific to your own postcode, you know the deal is up to date and available, unlike some websites which show the best deal, but do not take into account its national availability.
“Also, if you want to limit your carbon footprint, the service can help by comparing how green each supplier is and telling you what affect switching will have from one provider to another.”
The service is provided by UKPower, one of the longest running energy comparison services in the UK; it is Energywatch accredited, impartial and independent of all energy suppliers and constantly monitors the market to bring customers the cheapest possible deal to switch to – a quick, easy process with all the paperwork taken care of.
The tool is free to use and there is no obligation to switch, with no risk either, because if customers change their mind, they can cancel the switch up to seven days after application.
“Using the switching service means you can find online tariffs that are not always available by going direct to the supplier”, says Graham Self from UKPower. “And unlike car insurance, you can change energy suppliers more than once a year, so you can make sure you are always getting the best deal.”
