News from Fairtrade Fortnight
Fairtrade Fortnight 2009 was another busy busy time for Fairtrade campaigners all over the country. Lots of talks, events and visiting Fairtrade Producers made a hugely worthwhile effort to make sure that the message of Fairtrade was raised above the noise of the current financial difficulties. We have included a round up of the news and hightlights from this year's fortnight.
Fairtrade Marked Palestian Olive Oil is launched
Not only have sales of Palestinian Oil rocketed, but the Fairtrade Mark is now available - an unbelievable achievement for all those involved in this fantastic supply chain. Zatoun have worked tirelessly over the years to get the oil to market & it's great that the Equal Exchange branded version gets listed the Coop. Who Owns Fairtrade?
We are delighted that the internet means we don't have to miss out on talks and debates that take place.
Don't miss out on this event - a great panel of speakers - a mix of Fairtraders, producers and marketeers. We are delighted that the majority of the panel are women. The discussions are thought provoking and give some depth and opinion to the Fairtrade debates.
This event was organised by Trading Visions & LSE - an fairtrade educational initiative - click here to watch & listen to the speakers who include: Kate from Tropical Wholefoods and Pauline Tiffen, Dyborn Charlie Chibonga (a Malawian nut farmer), Rajah Banerjee (a tea plantation owner) and Katie Stafford of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
We think this is well worth a listen :)
