Virginia Rowe - editor of StyleWillSaveUs.com
Virginia Rowe is editor of the website: StyleWillSaveUS.com - a website that truly loves ethical fashion :)
- Favourite green/ethical activity?
My job! Writing, editing, and spreading the word on all our eco-fabulous finds for StyleWillSaveUs.com.
- Fairtrade or organic or local?
Oooh, do I have to choose? I don’t think I can. My shopping basket contains all of them and if I’m really lucky, sometimes I even manage to ferret out products which are actually all 3 at the same time!
- Best ethical buy?
My Jericho Hands telephone lamp. It’s a black antique Bakelite telephone re-worked by genius designer Alex Randall to create an energy saving LED lamp. I seriously love it.
- What green/ethical products are you waiting to be designed?
I’m actually a bit of a science-fiction freak so I’d love my very own Teleporter so I could indulge in a bit more international travel. No more carbon-belching planes, trains and automobiles. How cool would that be?
- What is your personal ethical/green dilemma?
My style. Eco-fashion is getting cooler by the minute and I have some fab organic pieces from Noir, Edun and Stella in my wardrobe but I still really, really, really like Sonia Rykiel and Anna Sui for their cutesy designs and at the moment there aren’t any ethical brands designing this kind of stuff. So I still indulge in non-eco fashion. Shock, horror!
- Where/ who do you get your inspiration from?
Everywhere. Conversations, shops, my rampant imagination, markets, tip-offs, exhibitions, films, surfing the net, books….
- What do you think the future if for ethical fashion?
More and more beautifully designed clothing to choose from which is easily accessible. New interesting eco fabrics and hopefully a self-cleaning textile so that I don’t have to spend a fortune on ‘green earth’ dry-cleaning anymore.
- What was the last green thing you did?
I just ate an organic avocado, tomato and chilly stuffed pitta. Yummy
- What would be your one piece of ethical/green advice to give ethics girls?
I love the Ghandi quote ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’. I have this pinned up at my desk and in my kitchen. It’s profoundly inspiring and grounding and the best bit of advice I’ve heard!
